BESS (battery energy storage system)

A BESS (battery energy storage system) is a set of batteries that stores electrical energy to be used at another time.

In industrial facilities it is used for:

  • Demand optimization.
  • Backup during power outages.
  • Rate arbitrage: storing energy when it is cheaper and using it when it is more expensive.
