Solar power, PPA and energy storage terms explained in plain language.

BESS (battery energy storage system)
A battery system that stores electrical energy for later use. In industry it is used to optimize demand, provide backup during outages and take advantage of rate differences.
kWp (kilowatt-peak)
The unit for the maximum power of a photovoltaic system under standard test conditions. It is used to express the size of a solar installation.
PPA (Power Purchase Agreement)
A long-term energy purchase contract in which the client pays only for the energy generated, at a rate agreed when the contract is signed.
